Is there any way to tell if a forearm is cored? It is a Runde with a maple nose. I really doubt if it is cored, but was curious.

With the shaft off the joint look down along side the pin and see if there is a different color of wood than Maple. If the Prong is Maple and it is cored the builder would probably use a different type of wood for a core.

So I looked down at the pin, it is maple. What I noticed was that the grain runs perpendicular to the grain in the forearm. To me, that means it is cored. Coring maple with maple does what, strengthen the forearm and help prevent warpage?

I believe it enhances the hit. The prong is probably Birdseye or Curly and if it's cored with Maple the core is probably straight grain Maple

I actually just got off the phone with Runde and he stated that the cue is cored with straight grain maple. The nose is curly. He stated that all of the cues that are Runde cues, 1993-present, are cored. Early Schons are not cored. I guess I could have called him earlier.
