Coring

What is the best way to core the front or the handle of a cue? Wouldn't I need extra extra long drills and boring tools even if I did one side first then the other side to meet in the middle? Or is there a special tool for this? I've heard someone mention a gun drill--is that it? I guess I would have to support it somehow in the middle if it's very long. Would a cataloq like Brownell's have what I'm looking for? Thank you in advance for any answers and for this great site--- I'm beginning to learn how much I don't know. Brian

I, normally, core the prong and butt collar on a wrapped cue. If building a cue with no wrap then I also core the handle.
Special Gun boring drills are used and come in standard lengths from 12" to 48". Tell them what you intend using them for a nd they will put the proper angle and radius on the carbide for wood. Do a search on Google for "gun drills" and you can find the manufacturers. I got mine from someplace in Conn. if I remember right. I doubt Brownell's carry them. I bore mine in the headstock of the lathe with a floating collet to keep the back end straight.
