Correction on my DCC post, etc.

I should have phrased yesterday’s posting a little differently. It should have said: maybe if the visiting VIP’s liked what they saw there would be financial benefits and TV.
Having said that, lets get on to the matter at hand.
Interested parties please peruse this list:
1. “Kid Delicious”
2. John Schmidt
3. Larry Nevel
4. John Hager Jr.
5. Shannon Daulton
6. Troy Frank
7. Shawn Putnam
8. Gabe Owen
9. Jeremy Jones
10. Santos Sambajon
11. Tony Robles
12. Danny Harriman
13. Keith McCready
These are just some of the 9 Ball champs who might consider playing in the Jan.14th ring game at the DCC. It is an opportunity of a lifetime, especially with the tardiness of players getting a deposit to me. Since I am having trouble, I herewith lower the 10 Ball entry fee to $3,000 from it’s original $5,000.
The way I see this, the above listed players are just as big a stars as anyone in the billiard community.

I promised Greg Sullivan that I would have a 10 Ball ring game and a Bank Pool ring game and I will deliver on that promise, even if Greg and I have to stake everyone in the event except Efren, whose man has paid a deposit. What I’m also not going to do is make scores of phone calls to prospective players and backers or walk around like a chicken with its’ head cut off on Jan. 13th and 14th. I’m not spending every minute in the tournament room. If you want to play in either ring game, I have to have a deposit no later than Jan. 7th.

why not?

Can anyone here guess why Grady isn't getting a better response from the top players to do this? It surely isn't a lack of courage. Maybe noone wants to tie up that much of their capital going into the tournament? That seems unlikely as well. Any ideas? Unfortunately, both of those reasons apply very well to me. I'll watch, though.

Right on, Grady, and thank you for your commitment to, hard work for, and investment in the beautiful game.

See y'all there.

grady should not have to beg for deposits for an event like this - this type of junk is why pool still has not arrived yet - sports are what they are because of the stars - post up guys and get on board and do your part to try and put our sport on the map or maybe you would like to see the derby go away just as fast as it came - also , what is capital - a $1000 is not that much money . are theses guys all broke all the time

This is just my opinion, but the players who want to play, don't want to put up the cash. They're waiting for someone to stake them. In some ways I can understand this, as thats a lot of cash to bet against 5 other top flight players. Sure the payoff is good if you win, But you need the talent and some good rolls to win this match. I hope they get both ring games filled and as always the best of luck to Grady and to Greg Sullivan for another successful DCC. Good luck to all the AZ players attending too. Sam

imo

I really have no comment on this but I would have hoped the ring game would not have been held on the first night of a 9 day tournament. If it was necessary I can understand but I am worried I can't make it on time to watch on the first night. That may be a problem for a lot of fans or potential players. jmo

Wanna Bet?

Wanna Bet (v cash) Both Ring Games Fill Up?
You have to understand how the player’s minds work to figure out why the response hasn't been what it should be.
A commitment for a pool player represents a responsibility. A big part of why they are what they are is because they don't want to be committed to being anywhere at any certain time. They also look at a tournament as an opportunity, not a challenge and definitely not a good bet. Some will attend the DCC with a realistic expectation of winning some prize money, but most will be looking for action. The action is what they are currently living and depending on, not the tourney winnings.
When the players arrive and the $ people show up - The Ring Games Will Get Full.
I'm not saying this is right or the way it should be - I'm just saying this is the way it is.
For it to get better, a top player will have to know that if they place in the top 50% of a big tourney, they will at least make expenses and a fair income for their time and effort.
This won't happen until the major sponsors see that this is a viable TV sporting event to advertise their product & or service.
That won't happen until the game is much more appealing to the general (non pool playing) public.
That won't happen until we give them what they have said they want - "ACTION & COLOR".
AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT GRADY IS TRYING TO DO!
Believe me, he knows what he's doing and he knows the challenges he faces. But I know he is one of the best (and maybe the only) to get it done,
AND DONE RIGHT!

You are absolutely right however Grady wants a commitment by Jan. 7 not when the players arrive with their backers.

Sorry if this is redundant but the site is having lots of problems, asked thison onepocket.org also but would like an answer. Which ring game is schedled for which day and what time. As I said on the other site having tournament on first day of 10 day tournament is very hard. A lot of West Coast people may not make it. IMO believe it would have been better later but if it was not possible so be it. Good Luck. Your answer is important to when I schedule my departure. Thanks

danny is such a fighter... i'd love to see him play some high stakes ring. As far as color... Danny has more than 95% of the players on the face of the earth.

The 10 Ball Ring Game is on friday night, Jan. 14th. It will start between 7 and 10 pm, depending upon the filming requirements by Accu-Stats and Billiardclub.net. The Bank Pool Ring Game is on the night of the 15th and it will also be between 7 and 10 pm. Both games are slated to last about four hours.

OHB, has summed it up pretty much. For 3000-5000, alot of those players can get action and have a much better chance to get paid. Only ONE person can win the ring game(s). Also, with 300+ players in each event, time constraints for each of these players is a premium, since each ring games takes 4+ hours to play. They will be filled, but not until the time of the event...Good Luck Grady.
