I was wondering if anyone could build me a small extension/adapter. Could something like this work? like all other extensions.

How short is short? Remember that McDermott is .850" while Uni-Loc cues are .840" Should the adapter be just one diameter or tapered? The Uni-Loc pin sits pretty deep down in the cue, they do make a brass Uni-Loc pin that's much shorter, but it does add a lttle weight.

I did not know that about the joint diameter. That's why I'm asking and learning. I'm not sure about the length in pretty tall and do prefer longer shafts. I guess it would be prettiest tapered, but I'm not sure something that small would be noticed.
it is a bit of a thought experiment at the moment. I thought a bit like the "Balance Rite" but with two different joints not the same.

With a second pin and an insert, light is not an option.

Unless you are going to reduce the joint size on the shaft, tapered isn't an option.

When you add in the extra joint in a cue I can't understand why anybody would use an extension.

Btw, I'm not short and I grip my cues just behind center of the handle.

McDermott quick release uses a 3/8x16 as in your diagram. The joint screw can be made out of any 3/8x16 bolt. Someone could try to make the insert out of phenolic but being a finer thread, it may not hold up over time or a brass insert could be made with a longer head on it.
Lastly, most McDermott quick release cues I've seen were .836 to .840.
The 3/8x10 standard joints are the ones that vary more in size.
Hope this helps!

There's a short lip on the face of the joint to help seat the brass insert. It's not real hard to duplicate!
