Cracked Ivory Inlay?

A general question for cuemakers

Theoretically speaking, is it possible to replace an old cracked ivory inlay? Is it possible to do so and the repair not be obvious?

I have passed on the opportunity to purchse cues in the past because I do not know if it would be possible to repair/restore the cue. If the repair would stand out, or look much different than the other inlays it would not be something I am interested in.

Thanks.

Theoretically, if it was made once it could be made a second time. Might be a little expensive though. The repair man would have to make an identical inlay, cut out the old and put in the new and then refinish the cue. I would look for someone who specializes in restores and discuss it with him.

If the cuemaker is still working on cues I would contact them first. As said before it can be remade but it will be costly. Chris.

Yes. Had Jim Buss do the very same thing for me once on an old Laube cue, but the inlay was fairly simple. He still had to make a template specifically for it.
