cracked shaft ?? for builders or maintainers

Last week I sold a used (but not abused) Meucci with red dot to a guy at the pool hall. I saw him tonite and he's saying that the shaft tenon is cracked. He's claiming that's what it is because the ferrule is ok, and it's making a noise. I've had it for a couple of years and didn't play with it much, and, I never noticed any noise. He didn't have it with him tonite for me to inspect, and it hasn't been taken apart, but, here's my question:
Is this very common?
I'm sure it can possibly happen, but is it more common that it's the ferrule that's not 100% secure.
Along this line, is it possible for a ferrule to appear and feel to be glued tight, but in fact it isn't?
Finally, how easily can they be removed? Would a couple of minutes with the blow dryer be enough to loosen and not do any other damage?

Thanks

The only cracked tenon I have delt with wouldn't hold a tip very long. I hold leather on the ferrule to heat it up to remove. You have to allow the heat to penetrate slow or you may melt the plastic. There may be a glue gap.

I'am no expert by any means but I've been playing pool for 35 years and it's possible that you have a small air bubble under the tip or if it has a weight bolt in the back, it might also be loose and making a noise upon contact.

I WOULD FIRST CHECK THE WEIGHT BOLT AND THEN REPLACE THE TIP IF NECESSARY. IF THAT DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM THEN I WOULD LOOK ELSE WHERE.

Cuttyshark, really the only way to remove a tenon that isn't loose enough just to pull off is to cut it off on a lathe. IMO, a cracked tenon is quite uncommon and probably not the problem. If it was, it would be getting worse very quickly. The first place I'd look is the bond at the tip. Go with the guy to the local cue fixer and let him tell you both his opinion.
