Creative Ads or Misleading?

I know ebay has been stepping up the patrol of watching the misleading ads where people insert other names in the title and/or ad but it seems there are always people trying to get around it.

Here's one ad that is plainly trying to get people in by having the stick show up in a search for Joss West when it's not. Nice looking stick but NOT a Josswest.

JOSS CUE WITH CUSTOM TAPER LEATHER WRAP MOORI TIP WEST

But here's one where the guy isn't "exactly" lying.

2002 HUEBLER CUE
CERTIFICATE NUMBERED 25 OF 25

It turns out when you read the certificate, the stick is number 25 of 25 "for the month of December". :D

West?? :)

Well,

The gentleman (or lady) is from Singapore....so I guess, depending on where in the world you are, he could be to your West side! Maybe that's what he meant!! ;) :D

I kinda get a kick out of the ones that advertise a Meucci or Joss....then the subtitle adds words like "Schon," "Scruggs," "Mottey," etc.

I'm all for dressing up an add a bit, just to make it appealing.....but blatant name dropping for the sake of another "look" at your cue is annoying, at best. Especially for those of us that do the keyword searches!

There for a while, the big thing was to put in the subtitle, "not a Schon, Mottey, Searing, Gilbert". :D Just drop some big names in the subtitle and your stick was listed in multiple searches.

I think that's what finally made ebay have to take some action. They were probably receiving hundreds of complaints a day over it.

Yep.....and now, much like the scam artists selling cues they don't own (and using stolen pictures to do it)....they're getting more "creative" every day!

i had one of his ads for a southwest-like cue canned by ebay abt a month back. same guy, same tricks.

Creative Ads or Misleading? Is a way of life in the USA, and it is not just on E-bay, try your Sunday Nespaper uin the Auto Ad Section...

:) :) :)

Reminds me of those commercials with the car buried up to the windows in water during the hurricane....and the Auto Classified Ad starts with "water damage"....then gets changed to "New Upolstery!"

That's the strangest looking birdseye maple I ever seen. Looks to be curly to me. That alone should make a buyer really think before buying this cue.

What annoys me is when you do an eBay search on just about ANY other cuemaker and Dale Perry's cues pop up. Geez...I like the guys cues, but that is ANNOYING!

according to ebay.. you cannot compare a cue to another brand in the title.. but they do allow you to compare it 1 single other brand in the sub title and the description.. they really started inforcing the rules too.. years ago when i first started selling on ebay. there was never no problems.. you could almost put whatever you wanted in the title.. or even the desc. and latley they really are cracking down.. and now its so easy for other ebayers to report the compitition if they see you break the rules... so it just makes it harder for everyone... its a shame.. ebay used to be so nice...

not any more they dont.. hidden text with keywords is against ebay rules too.. i just happen to look at one of his cues the other day.. he must have gotten in trouble because of it because he doesnt do it anymore...

it was really annoying..
