cue care

Dear shooters.

I have this warped snooker cue that bears some emotional significance and I was wondering if any of you have had luck 'un-warping' cues in the past. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In my experiences, once a shaft warps, its warped. People claim to be able to straighten them, and maybe it is possible. I feel that once the wood moves and finds its "happy place," then that's where it wants to be. Straightening the shaft is temporary.

Here's what I did to straighten a warped shaft:

1. Put the shaft on a hard flat surface with the warp facing up (there should be a gap between table and shaft).

2. Now placed a heavy object (I used a book) on the section that is warped (the shaft should now be flat against the table).

3. Depending on the how warped the shaft is, leave the book there for about 2 days. Check it periodically for progress, but don't remove the book even if it looks straight.

4. If the cue is warped badly, spray mist on the shaft. Then use a hair dryer on hot to dry the mist. I used the hair dryer every day for about 10-15 minutes.

Note: my shaft was only slightly warped and the above method fixed it to almost perfection. Furthermore, my warp was only the middle section of the shaft--when I rolled it, both ends still touched the table. I don't know how warped your shaft is, but if it's warped and going on the closet, it won't hurt to try. Also, you may have to leave the book on the shaft longer if the warp is big. One other thing, if you shaft is warped so badly that the ends roll away from the table, I don't thing the above method will help.

Good luck and let us know how it worked if you decide to try.
