Been using Cue Companion for many years great little machine however, I would like to know if anyone is using a different Tip Shaping Rest. I'm not a fan of the one that came with it. I've been using a razor blade by hand. just want something easier.
Thanks
Todd

I am using this one. Works well. I like it better than using a blade, just keep the cutter sharp. I use a quick change post so it is very easy to use. Cuemaker Supply also has one that also uses a cutter but on the y-axis. no experience with that one. not sure how it mounts.

Unfortunately, on a Cue companion there’s no way to mount that.

I like this one:

I also have the automatic one mentioned above but like using a razor blade.

I have a blade rest I made from a piece of aluminum from Home Depot. Use it now and then. Not sure how your lathe works. Couldn’t find a video of one and from the pictures it looks like it can only work on the first inch or two with that block in the way.

The radius tool just goes in the tool post as does the blade plate but if you can’t turn it 90 degrees then the blade plate is the way to go.

I like the aluminum plate much more than the pivoting ones. First had a pivoting one from Mid America, was ok but you really had to watch your direction and constantly sharpen the cutter. Then I made my own pivoting one with a carbide replaceable bit. Was a bit of setup to get correct even with quick release. Then I got a aluminum plate that I drop on my quick release. For me, I like this best, simple to use and does a good job.
