For those of you who have business transactions pending with Cue Components in Florida - the latest news is that the area is under mandatory evacuation due to brush fire. I suspect that Cue Components will survive the experience but will likely have some delays in getting new pending orders out since returning to the area will be at the discretion of the local fire officials. Check MSN News for further updates. Good luck Joe & Joann!

Bring Marshmallows!

Hey Paul and others.....

Thanks for posting that as we didn't know what to expect. We lost power as it got worse here.

What a day! I got a call this afternoon from 'Fire Command Headquarters' or something like that, ordering 'mandatory evacuation' -- YEAH RIGHT! Let me tell you something -- that's scary. Then you look out your window and it's nothing but smoke. We had power most of the day. About three weeks ago I was in Lowes and decided to buy a bunch of hose and sprinklers. I called Bob and he brought over more hoses and sprinklers. We could get out but getting back was the problem. Bob got through coming in the back way. Anyway we were all set up here with plenty of hoses (the guy who built this property was a builder and one thing we have are plenty of water hook-ups) so we were all set for a fight. We had the chain saws out, hoses set-up, marshmallows and Heineken. Then the power went out as they shut down the area. We were still determined.

How bad did it get? Let me just say this. I could see 'red' through the trees and the hot ashes sure didn't make us feel any more comfortable as they came blowing in. But we were ready. If it got bad we planned on fighting from the pool but we weren't leaving. Anyway, the fire for some reason headed south and they're sort of getting it under control. Power came up around 10:30pm or so. We'll see what happens tomorrow. Never a dull moment around here!

I am glad everyone is ok. But there is a reason for mandatory evacuations. Property can be replaced a life cannot.

What kind of life would there be without cuemaking? :)

I think a person should have the right to stay with his property if he so choses to do so in the face of impending disaster.
I hate those "for your own good" laws.

Then some Father, son or husband has to risk their life to save the idiot. It happens every year with the hurricanes, people refuse to leave then sure enough comes the call crying to be saved as the water is rising or the wind just took the roof off their trailer they were told to get out of. I remember a few years ago when some idiots were standing on a jetty during a storm where they weren't supposed to be and had been told to leave. A wave took all of them off and life guard drown trying to save the a**holes.

I'm glad to hear that things are improving. We had a major fire here some years back, and the one of the greatest losses in my opinion was the wood supply of a local bass guitar maker, Sheldon Dingwall. Nobody was hurt in the fire, but the man had many years worth of wood and tooling go up in smoke. I believe it took him 12 months to get going again. Glad you're back at it after the scare.

Wow ... it seems as if more people are dying not from the fire but from the smoke on the highway. Saw on the news there were some pileups on the road.

But ... dont they have a choice also?

Some people are decated to saving lives no matter what led to the emergency. They choose risk their lives trying to save others.
God bless e'm.

Still dont change a thing about your rights to stay on your property.
If life is to be saved above all else then why dont they pass laws making it mandatory to get operations if the illness is life threatning?
They passed laws about seat belts and motorcycle headgear to keep us safe so why not medical laws too.
You know ... to protect all us idiots and a*holes from ourselves.

Yea, and you will be the first to file a lawsuit. "No one told me it was going to be this bad, it is all their fault, no one came to save me".

I know Willie pretty well and I do not believe that he would file a law suit under these curcumstances. Even if he did that does not mean that he would prevail because it would be his fault.

Where Would You Draw the Line?

What about the people who choose to live near Tornado Alley, or near a Fault Line, or those who lived on Mt St Helens, or New Orleans are they idiots or a**holes because they should have known better?

What about the people who choose to speed on our public highways (they are warned all the time) or take part in motorcycle riding or hang gliding or choose to go camping in bear country? :D

Which ones can we consider warned or else should have known better and are not deserving of public services in the event of disaster?

I for one want to stay with my property. I saw first hand the thousands who behaved like "non idiots" and evacuated our coasts when ordered to do so. I saw literally thousands of them trapped on the freeway waiting for rescue from the heat and from the storm. No water, no restrooms, and in some cases no food. Those who ordered the evacuation couldn't do anything much to help.

I'm not trying to pick anything with anybody here and I do recognize the other side of this coin. I'm just looking at it another way. My pet peeve is speeders, wreckless drivers and people talking on the cell phone instead of paying attention to driving. Of course they are all much better drivers that I am in the first place and thus they can get away with it.

Peace. :)
