Cue Extensions

I haven't played much for a very long time. I'm getting back into the game. I'm interested in buying a cue extension. I have an old Predator. Do the cue extensions fit any cue or are there specific extensions made for specific cues? How do I figure out what will work with my cue?

The good ones are specific to each cue. They screw in to the butt or the weight in the butt. You can get generic ones like the one that attaches over the end but in my opinion that is not worth it as it completely changes the feel

Are you getting an extension for the odd shot or to use all the time. If the latter then you could get a mid cue extension which helps keep the balance more central

The Predator extensions come with an adapter that replaces the existing bumper in your cue. If playing with the extension full time, you may want to remove some weight. The 3" version weighs just under 2 oz and the 8" just under 4oz. I don't care for the mid joint extensions, because they make the cue feel unbalanced to me, but others prefer them.

I also believe Predator has 2 different versions or had 2 different versions. I don't think the current one fits the older cues.
You would be best emailing them with the model cue you have to see if they offer an extension for it.

The current one does not fit older models. There is a date online somewhere stating when it changed but I don't know it off the top of my head.

I ended up getting the X10R. Fits any cue, light, cheap.

Need to unscrew your bumper and show a photo.

this will fit any cue
it is similar to the old hagar extension
it does not leave marks on the butt of your cue ( i was going to say it doesnt scratch your butt but (pun intended) i didnt want to hear the jokes and it doesnt scratch your butt )😂

The QR Extension 2 is compatible with all Predator, Poison and Molinari cues made since 2012 that is equipped with the Uni-Loc® Weight Cartridge System, including:

  • Sneaky Pete SP4, SP6 and SP8 Series
  • 8K and 9K Series Cues
  • BK3 and BK-Rush Break Cues
  • Blak 2nd, 3rd and 4th Generation Series Cues
  • Ikon 2nd, 3rd and 4th Generation Series Cues
  • Throne 1st, 2nd and 3rd Generation Series Cues
  • P3 Series Cues
  • Sport II Series Cues
  • Limited and Special Editions (2012 and newer)
  • Predator CRM and Molinari by Predator Carom Cues
Predator pool cues made before 2008 usually are not compatible with the QR2 extension bumper because they have a push-in bumper.

I have tried to get this info from Predator to no avail. They will not tell me the thread adapter size so I can source it for some where else. They wanted me to send in cue so the could make a custom extension of course at a crazy price. Predator customer service sucks compared to the old days. I have probably 20K in Predator gear and will not buy anymore in the future. Have started buying Mezz product and will continue going forward.

The thread adapter size of the Predator QR bumper???

M16-1.5

Last year on a trip to Seberts to pick up a couple items I tried to purchase the Balance Rite mid cue extension for my 90’s predator. Sadly it was out of stock. But for the McDermott lucky I was buying as a house cue they had the correct extension.
Today the extended McDermott is used as the “house reacher stick “
I’ve often wondered why not just have a dedicated long cue just as we have other cues for specific tasks.
By doing this you could get the weight and balance right & consistent with your other cues

Added marketing bonus for the billiard industry
More cue & case sales. ; )

This is what I have been using for years and IMHO works really well.

If you have a cue maker in driving distance, you could drop it and get a thread inserted for any bumper adapter coming with an extension.

There are often generic extensions on sale at bigger events or online. They usually come with one or two most common adapters. If it doesn't fit, get one done.

M16x1.5 is the older Predator bumper thread. I know because I bought and older Predator extension and turned (on a metal lathe) a M16x1.5 nut into an insert that I epoxied into the butt of my cue... which in turn accepts the Predator bumper for the extension. Works perfectly.

no offense, but this is what a cue maker could do for you. Just not a nut, but rather from composite, expoxied into the butt, with the right thread

Not sure what you’re saying. Someone above wrote that the QR2 fits on all 2012 and newer Predators not older. I have the QR2, which is M16-1.5.

I wish I still had my QR1. My memory is faulty, but the difference was that it didn’t use a bullet nose uniloc for the extension. But I think the QR1 adapter was the same thread as the QR2. But it’s all a haze.

A cuemaker could do a whole lot of things, but if someone that’s not a cuemaker is an experienced metal lathe user, I’m sure they could do a lot, too.

I don’t even know the model I have. The best I could do is send them a picture. if they have old records online maybe they can find my original order. I have it a LONG time. I bought mine not long after they first came out.
