Cue Finishing ?

With respect to the Solarez products, do you do the grain filler and sanding resin before you install the linen wrap? I am speaking in terms of a cue where you intend to cover the wrap with the final finish.
Thanks

Erik

Thank Ryan, I assume you are saying before you put the final finish coats over the wrap, like in the case of a Meucci. I ask because I wanted some confirmation if anyone did the epoxy sealer over the wrap before the final finish coats.

With the cue without any finish of any kind on it, I would put the wrap on like normal. Cut the channel and press it and all that. Then I'd put whatever sealer you use down over it and finish like you normally do.

Is there not any concern that you could get gassing through the wrap if the wood under the wrap isn't sealed before it is saturated with the final gloss finish?

Finishing over the wrap is finicky. The linen can discolor and/or be blotchy. It been several years since I messed with Solerez products but the grain filler should work. There's still more to it than installing the wrap and brushing on the sealer.

if it was me id install the wrap like normal and then seal it with water thin super glue. let it soak in then finish as normal. ive done this two times and both were a pain in the ass cause i had never done it before.

A lot of finishes won't stick to CA long term.

I've been wondering about this also, I tried to do an epoxy finish over a burgundy linen wrap and it turned black.
I was wondering if it should or could be sealed with something first.
