Cue lathes, which one?

I'm interested in purchasing a cue repair lathe and possibly making sneaky petes (hustler cues). Any suggestions on what kind of lathe to purchase?

I've found these sites selling lathes:
www.shaftmaster.com
www.cuesmith.com (the mid size lathe)
www.uniqueinc.com (the cue companion III)

Any other sites of lathes would be appreciated. I'm looking to stay as close to $1K or less as possible. I'm leaning towards the Unique Inc. Cue Companion III

Thanks,
Zim

best bet is to go with the cuesmith....his equipment is super.........you will not be let down............juston

I agree with poolfool. I have a Cue Smith Deluxe and couldn't ask for anything better. The bonus is that Chris Hightower answers the phone for any type of question you may ever have about procedures, materials, or accessories.

How much is the Deluxe? Are you repairing or making cues, or both?

Thanks,

To Zimmer and all who are interested in REPAIRING AND OR BUILDING "GREAT" CUES.

I have just designed and am now building a new lathe for repairs, and or building cues.

You can purchase the machine with only repairs in mind, or buy the full blown machine that will help you build kick-ass cues. It's about 45 days out, before I have them ready to go.

You can buy the machine for repairing only, and or building cues. If you buy it for repairs, at a later date you can add the fixtures that will allow you to build cues from scratch.

These machines will be solid, and have very close tolerances, as they should have. I am known to build very nice and heavy machinery. In building cues, one needs equipment that has "MASS" , after all we are working with wood. "MASS" gives you repeatability. Machinery of this calibar, will help you become a great craftsman and allow you to construct great cues.

As we all know, wood moves all the time. So keeping that in mind, you need equipment that will allow you to machine the wood as close as possible. Stay tuned

Blud- Considering my career (US Air Force), I'm traveling every few years or so. Is the lathe you are talking about portable, or should this lathe be left in a cue shop for a longer period of time? How much does it weigh? If you were to use (buy) a portable cue lathe, which one would you choose, or do you build a portable lathe? You can email me if you would prefer.
Glad you are back home from Vegas and your other stops! Hope we can still do some business like we discussed recently! Talk to you soon and stay well,
Zim
