Why is it that snooker cues use ash while most others use maple?

Why is it that snooker cues use ash while most others use maple?

I'm not sure if i'm on track here, but my guessis that the snooker cues are thinner, needing more rigity. It's a different game Bigger table in both directions, smaller balls,. A different hit than any other game

Ash is more abundant in the UK versus maple, so they used what they had available at the time. They like to keep with tradition and continue to use Ash.
