Cue sounds

I hate the sound that some cues make, the loud clicking sound. It sounds almost like a break cue with a phenolic or g10 tip and I find it distracting... Does anyone know what is the cause of this? I've thought either the joint or the tip, but some say it could be the shaft...any ideas?

Does the cue have an A Joint? I had a short splice cue that develop a faint "tick" sound when I hit the CB...I assumed it was the tip, had it replaced, and the "tick" was still there. Thought it might be a bad install, but no. Thought I might have a ferrule problem, but no. This went on (intermittently, not every hit) for a couple of months. Then, during my first match in the VA State 10 Ball Championship a few months ago, the "tick" became a "clack" and got louder with each stroke. I felt a chip of finish hit me in the chin...then I looked down and saw a crack around the Bushka ring at the A Joint, and cracks running up all the veneers in the points. There was movement when I twisted the cue in my hands. I couldn't draw the CB more than two inches. The cue had started to come apart, likely due to some structural flaw (voids in the glue surfaces), etc. Had that cue for three years, loved it. Heartbroken, I sent it back to the maker and he refunded my money, believe it or not. I'm now officially a full-splice convert!

In my limited experience, it's a hard tip that makes that sound. Occasionally I'll forget to switch to my playing cue after breaking. But the sound of the first shot reminds me that I'm still using my break cue (Samarsa tip).

The sound isn't as pronounced on a break shot probably because it's happening so quickly and is soon followed by the sound of the rack.
