Cue Tip Question

I just got a new tip on my cue today. This is the first time I have ever got one changed. The guy told me that I needed to wait until tomorrow to play with it. How long do you guys wait to play with a cue after you replace the tip.

also I'm thinking if I do a repair for someone I wouldn't let them pick it up until it ready for play...I've never heard of a tip needing 24 hrs to cure.

If the tip is glued on with a good super glue gel (Loctite, Duro, etc..) it should be good to go right after it has been trimmed, shaped, and burnished.

Contact cement such as Tweeten's 10 minute tip glue and other contact cements don't fully cure for 24 hours.

to sum it up, it depends on the type of glue used. If it is contact cement, wait for 24 hours to be secure. If it is cyanoacrylate based adhesive, like most superglues - you are ready to play as soon as you leave a workshop.

A couple of answers were "as soon as it's trimmed and shaped." But how long do you wait until you trim and shape it? I use a regular super glue gel and do all my trimming and shaping by hand, which can pop an unset tip off easier than a lathe can. I'll usually let mine sit for at least two hours before I'll start the trimming, and as soon it's trimmed and shaped, it's ready to go.

If the Que maker said to wait 24 hours before using it, I would take his advise. He is not likely to give you bad information and ruin his reputation.
Although allot of "super glues" quick set and have the majority of there strength within a few minutes. The full strength and cure is not usually for 24 hrs.

basically once the tip is clamped I set the timer...one cigarette or five to ten minute before shaping...i use the loctite gel too...seems to setup better and easier than regulasr super glue. I guess my whole customer service beef is...if you pay someone to have work done I want to use it once its paid for and picked up. If it takes 24 hours to cure don't let it out of your shop til it ready. but thats just me. i wouldn't want my rep destroyed for repairs the "fell apart" because the client didn't want to wait as long as i told them to after picking it up so I let customers know when the can pick it up and its done for good

yes, Loctite is the best choice if we talk about superglues. I know a man working in that sphere and he recommended Loctite to our local repairman for tips setup.

I use LocTite gel superglue and I wait for 45 mins. Never had a problem.

years ago we waited over night, now depending on what your using as stated in this thread you can play right away. worst case it goes flying off.
