Cue tips

I just wanted to ask about cue tip’s . The conundrum I have is a few of my cue tip’s appear to be in ok shape , not knowing the amount of age on the tip it leaves me wondering if I should replace and if I do , will the new tip perform better ? They play ok , however I find myself miscueing all to often , mostly on draw shots ! Is their someway to prove they need replacing ? Or does one just go to a softer tip to alleviate my situation.

What kind of tip do you have or use now?
I’m not sure , it’s a hard tip that came with the cue when I bought it used , I used my shape tool on it , and the shavings appear to be leather ? So I have no idea the type , their Is still some meat on it , and it’s a hard tip I believe.

First, tips can get harder over time, so depending on their age, they could very well have turned into mini rocks. Second, your tip should match your style of play, not the other way around. You shouldn't have to adapt your style to accommodate any of your tips. Experiment with one cue and go with a softer tip. See how it feels. My guess is that you'll see less miscues. Be prepared for some mushrooming in the beginning, but that's temporary and common with softer tips. You may have to have the sides shaped once or twice over the first month or two. I play with a softer tip so I'm pretty familiar with it. Also, you should have only one main playing cue at a time, anyway. Not a good idea to switch around.

Perfect ! I think you had it with mini rock , that explains it to the tee . I’m going to try and switch it today . Thanks for reading and answering my question.
