This looks like something you could make out of a small piece of wood and some dowel pins with a little effort and a drill.

Yes, I was seriously thinking of making my own. However it's still difficult because the cue should be traveling in a straight line during the back and forward swing. Since almost any cue but has a taper design, there should be something to slide over the cue that is level to prevent side movement.
