Cue Update

Sweet Marissa

Some people have asked about my Jacoby cue that is under construction, so here's an update:

When I went to my jeweller about the pink Swarovski crystals I want in my cue, he wanted to try some other stones he thought I'd like. They came in a few weeks ago, but they were more purple and red than the pink I like. So he ordered my Swarovski crystals, which came in this week. I went to look at them today, but they're peach. Upset, I flipped through his book and found some baby pink mother of pearl. So I ordered those. Once they come in, if I like how they look, he'll send those up to Jacoby Cue so he can finish my cue. Here are some pictures what's been done so far...

One more...

Again, it has five points, and will have white holly French diamonds on the base of each point
(with a pink stone in each centre), and five corresponding French diamonds in the butt.
The wrap will be solid black Irish linen. The birds eye maple will have a cinnamon tint to it.

I was talking to a few people about going. It depends. It's possible :)

I don't know about having expensive crystals in a cue. You might get tempted to lever them out and toss them on the table if you run out of cash in the middle of a money game.

Also, I want to get the joint engraved with my name in calligraphy. Does anyone know where I can get that done? (To dissuade would-be thieves from walking away with it.)

I dunno if that will stop a thief.

Mike Capone engraves his label on the pin, you might wanna give him a call.

Actually, the best defense is a good offense; don't leave your cue laying around.

Thank you! I know it won't stop a thief, but it will make it harder for them to sell it if it's unique. Also, since I designed it, I thought I'd add a personal touch with the design on the joint.

Marissa,

Ask Jacoby. It can't be the first request he's had for caligraphy. He may do it.

I have an old Dan Janes that is engraved nicely. I imagine cue makers who offer engraved joints outsource that labor. Shouldn't be hard to find someone to do a quality job.

Oh one other thing Marissa, when you look at the stones don't hold them up to the light to judge. Put the stone flat in your hand or on something dark and see how the light affects it. This is because the stone will be imbedded and may reflect light different.

Terry

Good point, Tbeaux. In fact, also remember, if you're going to lacquer over the stones, that they'll more than likely appear slightly to moderately more dull than they did prior to being lacquered over.
