cue upgrade?

While I’ve played here and there since childhood, I would still consider myself a beginner. I bought a table a few years ago that came with Koda KS10 cues. I’m wondering if it makes any sense to upgrade. I don’t plan on playing tournaments, only socially, but I would like to get better and not be hindered by bad equipment. Would something like a Schmelke SP or a Valhalla be an upgrade? Or is the Koda good enough unless and until I’m ready to drop $400+?

Anything you like, you want, can afford ..buy it. Want to improve>>>Consider a professional instructor or high level player to work with you. Cues making you a better player?... No.

I’m under no illusion that a better cue will make me better! And I understand that any pro would beat most of the world with a crooked stick. But that doesn’t mean I should try to learn with a crooked stick! I also don’t want to waste a couple hundred bucks if nothing in that “entry level” price range is going to be any better than the Koda KS10.

Make an A-B test. Can you borrow a cue from someone to compare. Regardless any cues you might buy now will become part of collection. Have fun there are no rules. Welcome to AZB

Schmelke might be an upgrade. Valhalla probably in the same ballpark As the Koda. I think if you spend a bit more you will get something that is made well and maybe feels better. I don’t know how those Kodas play. I hit a few balls with a newer Koda with their upgraded shaft. Hit just fine. You can find many good cues in the 300-500 range. IMO it is very hard to beat the combination of price, quality, and playability that Cuetec provides in the Avid line. They start at less than 300.

I would change the tip first if anything and see how you like it. But if you found a cue you like the looks and feel of, go ahead and upgrade. Pool is a hobby and it’s subjective that buying new equipment will make us better. It’s about what you like and feel comfortable with.
I bought and sold a lot of cues to try out, and I still enjoy playing with my cheap camel cue. Changed the tip and added some weight to it, and it feels like an extension of my body now. I still take out my more expensive cues here and there, but the camel feels just right. Possibly because I’m used to playing with house cues growing up and have a preference to that balance now.

If you think a Cue not Skill will make you world class player. I got to deflect that idea.

Buy book 99 Critical Shots, by Ray Martin, memorizes the book, master the shots.

Out come will be.🏆👍💰💰💰💰💰💰

I have 99 C. Shots...great book.

Do cues make us better. I dunno... have close to 40 and still looking for the magic one😂
In 1979 I bought a Meucci MO4 for $100. I used that and a Doc Frye. 20 years later I started buying cues for fun. For the wall...for the heck of it. I play the same regardless of what I use.

Did you not see him post that he knows a cue will not make him a better player?

Having a nicer cue is nice in a 'pride of ownership' way but is NO guarantee you'll play better. Being used to a cue is far more important than how nice/fancy it is. If you're still using stand. deflect. shaft you might try a few lo-def to see if you like it. Sometimes a certain shaft 'might' improve your play but that varies greatly from person to person. Koda's are made in same place as Pred and many others and are nice cues for not much $$.
