Hello,

I live and play pool in NJ. Is it a bad idea to order custom cues made in Florida (Omen, Dayton), or Arizona (BCM)? If yes, which one is worse: moving a cue from an arid, dry environment to a humid one or vice versa?

Or, does the fact that cues are made indoors with temp/humidity
control negate the differences in climate?

Sorry for all the questions, but I don't want to order a cue from
across the country and have it warp!

Thank you very much,
Roger

I am waiting for my new cue ordered from Texas, and I live in PA, so I hope the climate differances don't have a negative effect. My guess would be that the similarities between the climate controlled shop and climate controlled pool room would help.

Hey there, I was just wondering where in Texas you have found a custom cue maker. I will be in the market soon to purchase a new cue and would like a custom one and hoped to find a place here in my home state that could provide me with what I am looking for. I would much rather be able to drive to a place and look at thier selection in person before deciding to purchase a cue from them. Some other places I had found would require a plane trip... blech. :)

Thanks in advance.

Gideon, if you are looking for a custom cue in Texas, I would strongly suggest a Bludworth. He makes a great cue. All styles and price ranges are available also. If you put something on this site, I am sure Leonard will reply.

I've bought custom made cues from New York (Dominiak cues), Oklahoma (Prather cues), Wisconsin (Jacoby cues), Mississippi (Espiritu cues) and none of them have warped on me. I've taken these cues to Germany, Illinois, Florida and currently in Korea along with a States in between. I think the main thing to be aware of is leaving them exposed to heat/cold for longer periods of time, ie, trunk of your car, garage, unfinished basement, etc. Keep your cue(s) in room temperature as much as possible. If you are traveling in your car for hours during the hot summer or cold winter months, before you shoot with your cue, give it some time to adjust to room temperature.
Thanks and good luck,
Zim

Why don't you check out a NJ cuemaker such as Mike Capone? He's near Trenton. Phone # is (609)586-8165. He makes outstanding cues.

Zim,

Your cues have seen the world!

Thanks for the info, and I agree the largest factor (asides from construction/wood seasoning) would be proper care. I would never leave a cue in the car.

Have you ever visited Taiwan? The pool scene is pretty mature over there.

Roger

Mr. Harris,

Of course I am familiar with Capone, but his cues are a bit outside my budget. I would love to give him a call if only I could afford them!

I'm looking into Barry Cameron, he's not that far from me and his cues look great.

Thank you for replying,
Roger

Gideon,

I ordered from Jerico cues, somewhere near Waco, I think. Try jericocues.com . There is a picture of one of his cues somewhere in this forums archives.

Recommendations in the Southwest USA...
Bludworth.in central west texas..Jerry Olivier in houston area...
Bryan Mordt and Sierra Cues in arizona
Many cuemakers try to keep a certain moisture content during their manufacturing process so that a change of climate does not affect the wood
