just got back from vegas... here's the scoop for those who followed my 'how to get my cues to vegas' thread... after weighing all my options, I bought a Haliburton from Scruggsinhand and figured i would try to carryon and if not i'd be safe checking with the Hal..... so i pulled the stock foam out and used 1" hi density foam to line top and bottom, then used 2" regular foam and cut a pretty exacting fit for my whitten 3 by 6 to go into the Hal...so i figured i was double protected..
i then called northwestern and they said should not be a problem carrying it all on and if there was issues ask for the agent... so off i went to Bradley International... showed the guys the case, they x-ray'd it, i told them it was expensive pool cues-i had 2 SW's in it.., and off i went to carry it on no questions asked.... <what the hell i thought-but was happy as sh#! i tell you...> So got to Vegas carrying my sticks around the airports.....

Played for 4 days, spent a day meandering around and just got back... well--- when i got to Vegas "Mgulliver travels" airport, made it all the way to the gate with my cues, had a guy saying i could carry it, then had a supervisor say i couldn't carry it on... i stated i just carryed it from CT with no issues and he replied "well they should be slapped" then i told him i spoke to a supervisor at NW and they said i could and he responded "she don't make the rules-washington does" so i was nice but refuted why he has a different washington rules book than the guys at CT and just told him i wasn't gonna club someone with a 2500.00 cue but i understood...so back to check it in with big ole fragile stickers on it <but before i did the guy who said yes to me asked if he could see what an expensive cue looked like cause he plays and only spent 30 bucks on his :-)--- i gladly gave him a peep show...... ohhh-- and at the desk- sign a waiver about they are limited liability etc...

So bottom line-- don't really know the true rule- it probably is a no... BUT seems to be up to the guy behind the X-ray machine probably making minimum wage and working a 12 hour shift... our nations security is in Gomer Pyle's Xray's hands :-)

p.s.---- forgot to tell ya--- The shiney halliburton had a big ole dent in it when i got back home. <lots a good the fragile stickers did---maybe their definition is different then mine>... Cues safe and sound though--- tough little case...

Fragile?

I had a friend who worked Christmas vacation in another high morale location, the USPS. He told me that packages marked "Fragile" were routinely uh, "tested for compliance with USPS packaging specifications," meaning they were thrown across the room...
So, I suspect, your Haliburton case met with the same rigorous testing!
Glad to hear it all worked out. I had the same problem going from CT to Chicago, OK on the way out, but not on the way back. Regular cue case, mangled by the rigorous airline testing. Glad I didn't have SW cues in it!

Packing...Shipping...

I also knew someone that worked for both brown and purple shipping companies and they treat all packages the same: fast and hard.
Id complain to the airline about the dent and your treatment at the airport with mixed signals and misinformation.

There's a new safety program at USPS concerning roll a way vehicle accidents. Before leaving a vehicle they have to place a package under the tire to act as a wheel chock and unfornately these vehicles tend to roll away so if you happen to get a flattened package try to have a little understanding:D :D :D
