Cuetable Practice - Tough 8ball Runout

I thought I had done that too, but maybe I skipped a step.

Anyway, definitely a good out, the only real problem I see is getting position on the 8. I don't think I have the speed control to reliably get that position, especially considering if you roll too short or too long, there aren't any other available pockets for the 8.

Yes, you'd better be feeling pretty good about your relationship with whitey if you're going to take on this runout :D

Not sure, but I think your runout would be higher percentage for most people.

I like Aarons better than playing the 8 off the ball last. Basically because
that option is always there so why not try and open up something like along the way.
I do believe that I would shoot the 6 off the 13 first however. In 8ball
I dont like to leave the trouble for last. I might pocket the 3 in the corner
on the first shot and then take the 6 off the 13. This way I am solids and
stripes has more issues should I miss.
This is one of those layouts that I am really not sure what I would do unless it actaully came up in a match.

Nice layout jsp

Yeah, both Aaron's and Andrew's solution make it possible to pocket the 6 off the 13, which is an easy carom. That's what I suggested earlier. That way you got options for the 8 and you're creating problems for your opponent by bumping the 13 to the endrail.

The merit of Andrew's solution is that he's got an uber-perfect keyball and it's stop-stop. Plus, should he miss the carom, the 8 is going to block a million stripes up in that corner pocket. But you still don't want to miss, for sure.

But I agree with frankncali, if you play the 8 off the 10, you ARE leaving your problem ball for last, and that might be a bit risky.

The 6 off the 13 is an interesting idea. It opens up the corner for the 8 ball. I don't think I play it, though, because you have to hit that shot fairly firm to make the 6, and it's hard to judge the exact path of the 13. With my luck, the 13 would collide with something in the worst possible way (ie. hit the 4 thin and drive it to the rail beside the 11), and totally screw up the out. If the game means anything, then I want as few balls rolling at a time as possible.

This forum has been quiet for a while, so why not liven things up a bit by giving us some practice on the new cuetable.

Below is a URL code for a not-so-trivial rack of 8ball. Your opponent just broke dry, and you're up at the table with this table layout...

http://CueTable.com/P/?@4AVLb4BBGl4...HOgx1IONF2JRdV2KahC4LMkn1MTIB3NWOd2OVkc1PWeV@

Give a detailed description of how you would choose to runout this rack using the cuetable software. Record each shot on a separate page ("+" icons), such that we can scroll through each phase of the runout using the page up/down keys ("arrow" icons).

Just wanted an excuse to practice my cuetable skills. I'll post my own solution soon.

PS...I hand-placed every ball in this rack, purposely having both solids and stripes with their own set of problems. Just wanted to see how many different solutions we would get. I also want to see if anyone would choose my out. :)

Wow, nice high-percentage out, but you should have stayed down on the money ball!

I guess I need more practice on the new Wei Table.

Fred <~~~ to short for that last shot

Well Im not familiar with the table yet so I'll just tell you real simple like.

6 off the 13. 3 bottom left corner. 1 in the same. 7 in the same. 5 top left. 2 in the bottom side. 4 in the opposit side for shape on the 8 in the bottom right corner. Thats what I would attempt to do anyway. The only problem I see is getting the right shape on the 2 from the 5. The 5 ball is my key ball here to secure the win.

Actually I would take the 2 in the bottom right corner after looking more carefully. I think that would be better for me.

I guess we're looking at the diagram differently. It looks to me that you can roll the 6, catch half of that 13 and it goes. If you look at the tangent line, it actually points above the pocket. If indeed I could roll it, I'd feel fairly confident that I could lag that 13 to the endrail.

You may be right. It's very close, but I would be afraid to roll it. The tangent line looks fine, but you have to consider that the tangent line is based on the assumption of a sliding ball. When rolling, the 6 is essentially going to have a little follow on it, and, with a half-ball hit, I think that's going to put it either in the very left edge of the pocket, or maybe not in the pocket at all. The way I look at this shot is to imagine that the 6 ball is the cue ball, and I think about what I would have to do to scratch. I also assume that I'm going to be striking the cue ball slightly above center (to to mimick natural rolling). Based on those assumptions, if this is a must-make, I'm going to hit it with a firm stroke to guarantee making the ball. That being said, this is not necessarily a must-make situation. In fact, with this layout, you may be better off missing the shot and clogging up the hole with your 6 ball. :D
