cuetec avid shaft insert material

I seem to remember someone posting that the cuetec avid shafts use a soft material for the joint insert on the shaft, that it can melt when attempting to remove it.

Wondered if anyone has run into it. I'd like to try one but don't really want to get involved with those pins.

I've done a bunch of searches, haven't turned anything up.

Thanks

Would it be "easier" to just tap the existing plug to 3/8X10?
The more I think about it I'm thinking what I saw about melting was probably attempting to replace the pin on an avid butt, not redoing the thread in the shaft insert. Even if it's a softer material you wouldn't think boring it and plugging it would be a problem. Guess there's only one way to find out, spend the 160 bucks. Luckily for me I'm way better at wasting money than I am at working on cues.

Don't even consider that option. Just bore and plug the shaft. With a threaded plug and a quality epoxy like West 105/206 with 203 silica powder will create a strong bond. Then you can thread it to suit whatever pin your cue has.
