i have a pet peeve with people saying the wrong terminology for the cushion. very inexperienced players call it "the bumper" a bumper is something from a pin ball machine, or a bumper on a bumper pool table. other players, experienced, like to call cushions "rails" sorry, but rails are on the top of the table, what gets furniture polish on it, where the diamonds are. cushions are cushions, and should be refered to as cushions. we don't call balls "the round things" or the cue stick, "the long thing". and we do not say let's play "3-rail billiards" no, we call it 3-cushion billiards.

OMG... LOLOLOLOLOL , i've actually heard that before, not to long ago, and if it wasn't so late, i would have taken him up on it, but i had no use for a silver pendent the size of my head...

Thanks

Jon

sorry, didn't mean to be like niles crane on the show fraiser, but they are called cushions. from this moment foward, refer to them this way. at least tomato and tomoto are one of the same in some strange way.

So do you play.....straight-rail billiards,or.......straight-cushion billiards?

this is true. however, don't you say the ball was hit so hard, it jumped up on the rail, spun, and landed on the table!

another expression i hate in the kitchen instead of behind the head string.

In the pool hall where I reside, they are rarely called cushions...in fact, I can't recall an instance where they were called cushions!! I think you are being a litle too anal about this. We call them rails!

In New York, do they call everything the same as they would call it in the south. Do New Yorkers say "ya'll", or use the phrase "fixin' to go somewhere", or say "ain't"...it's all about what everyone around you says! That's where you learn things!!

So, tonight I am going to play some 3 rail pool, and the white ball has to start out anywhere in the kitchen on every shot!!! LOL :D :D :D

You must really love it then when we New England Yankees call it "tonic". You won't find many people from the north east talking about "pop", maybe "soda".

Well don't leave us hanging what is the expression you hate when you're in the kitchen? Hee, hee, hee, I'm sooooo funny.

Silencer,

You must be easily sharked... all one has to do is mention rails, felt, kitchen and stick.. and these few words stir the 'pet peeve' emotions.

Do you have problems with stripes and solids being called big-uns and little-uns?

How about players saying 'NICE SHOT" when you 'call the 8 ball' in a match?

Or, how about then saying, 'Good Luck' when beginning a match?

Do you have problems with slopped-in balls?

So many problems for you... why do you continue to put yourself in such agonizing postions?
