Hello everyone. I am looking for a custom break cue to add to my slowly growing collection and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on some custom cuemakers that make a good break cue. I dont really want a jump/break combo but just pure break cue. Thanks

I really prefer a 16 ounce snooker cue for breaking; the rack really explodes using that light weight stick.

I picked one up from JW Petree of Oklahomabillards.com

Simple Action Cocobolo sneaky pete butt. He then puts a custom shaft with a melamine ferrule and phenolic tip. Cue Weighs about 18 z's & Hit's like a ton of bricks.

Check him out for sure.

Since you are looking for a custom cuemaker to make this cue.Are you taking about for collectability or for use? Just curious.Mike Stacey from Indiana makes a fine jump/break cue.Im sure he would make a break cue for you.

Actually I am looking for both collectability and use but my idea of collectability is slightly different than most. I am collecting custom cue to just collect custom cues. Im not really looking at the value of them in the long run I would just really like to have a collection of awesome custom cues that are made well and that play well. I plan on using all of the cues that I acquire to the fullest extent. I personally am not the kind of person to buy a cue for a lot of money and just look at it. I going to use it for what it is made for..... playing pool! Im looking around. The reason I am asking about a custom break cue rather than a production is because I want it made to my specs and with the woods I want.

:D :D :D :D
I would suggest you look here!! This is by far the finest cue I have owned, and that includes several of the bigger name custom builders.

http://www.arnotq.com/

Go with the T3 shaft and your choice of many exotic woods. tell Arnot i refered you and he will be glad to help answer any questions. if I can be of any assistance feel free to e mail me jcalnan@tampabay.rr.com

Ok.Well there are alot of great cuemakers out there.Good luck in your search.Keep us posted

Thanks Tony I will. I was looking into Arnot because he is a local cuemaker here in Florida where I live. I was thinking about going over to see him personally and talk to him about a design. I definately like his T3 shaft heard awesome things about it . From what Ive heard he is a very nice guy. I will definately consider him. I was also thinking about Blud, DZ, Wayne or maybe Viattorre. I dont know..... so many cuemakers so little time :(

I have a Jacoby J/B custom cue! They will make one without the Jump joint. check it out... www.zimsrack.com "Cue Collection".
This cue hits hard and has a perfect balance.

I use a 6 USD cue for a break cue I got at a flea market....its actually a Carom cue about 16 ounces with a shaft stiff as hell !!!.......

btw..it had 2000 dings and scratches ..but a new coat of finish and whala.......looks good as new....I even got another one so I can have an extra shaft :-)

I hear Kevin Varney makes a pretty good break cue, I've seen it in action and it appears to work well. I bought a Quest cue cuz it had a fat, stiff shaft and dropped a phenolic ferrule/tip on it and it will drop many balls for me.

the BreakRAK Company is going to announce a new line of Custom Break Cues in about a week to 10 days.

The cues will be made in series of 6 (1 of 6, 2 of 6, 3 of 6 and so on). The first series is Cocobolo with a 13.5mm Laminated Shaft. Cue weights start at 18.0 & go up.

They are made to do one thing & one thing only. Hit the cue ball HARD & ACCURATE... look for the debut on eBay...

Hey has anyone heard anything about Showcase Billiards custom cues. I saw an add for their new break stick "The Buster" in the new billiards digest. I have never heard anything about Showcase billiards but there is a link for them in the AZbilliards cuemakers link page and their cues look pretty decent. I really dont know how I feel about a 14-16 oz break stick and that what they say the weight ranges in but any opinions on this one?

there are lots of ideas on how to make something, just like there are lots of people. Everybody's got an idea & an opinion.

Everyone knows you can move something faster, when it's lighter. But, does that mean we should all be hitting the Cue ball with 8 ounce sticks... NO !!! But Jump Shot Cues, that are light ,work GREAT for moving something FAST.

There is a "middle of the road syndrome" to contend with, on just about every issue. You cannot make much progress, whacking a a Bridge Nail, with a Tack Hammer. General rules in Billiards say that you can control the positional speed of the Cue Ball better with a lighter Cue, but you have more accuracy with a heavier Cue.

That's a genuine "Catch 22" situation. Postion is worthless if you miss the shot & vice versa. If you make a ball & have no position, you are still at a standstill.

So, back to the "middle of the road syndrome". Try a cue that just feels good. Who cares what it weighs. A 20 ounce cue, that is balanced well, will feel lighter.

The Break Shot is a matter of KNOWLEDGE, adjusting for table conditions & most of all >>> Accuracy with a little speed.

Remember .... quoting Steve Mizerak, "the major mistake, that players make on the Break Shot, is having a wild Cue Ball".
