just received a custom butt radial and my existing shaft is super tight

over time might this loosen up a bit?

is there something I can do?

is this something a cue repair person can easily address?

my concern is that the wrong fix will cause it to be too loose and thus unplayable

Yes, it can be addressed.
1st step is to remember there's an insert in there, not wood.
Items other than wood could have a tighter fit.
So with that in mind try a 5/16" reamer inside the hole. No rush, take your time.
After that, use the undersized tap, then check the fit.
If it's still to tight, use the full sized tap but only go in a 1/2 inch. Check the fit.
See what happens
Good luck

As Mr. Webb states it's best to use the regular Radial tap and just go a little at the time, there's enough variations between Radial pin designs that a shaft can have a tight fit on one pin and a loose feeling fit on another pin.

Bees wax will sometimes help.
