Anyone know what anything about the construction of Whitten Cue Cases, and what is under the Plugs that Whitten supplies to be used with his cases. Also any consequence of not using the Shaft Plugs in the case.

Reason I ask is a guy where I play from time to time has a 2 x 3 Whitten in very good condition he want to sell, but has lost the Shaft plugs that Whitten’s Web-site shows.

i don't like them. they're use, i'm guessing, is to provide a buffer/shock absober when you drop your shaft in the tube.

that being the case, everyone drops their shaft tip first anyway, so you already have the padding of the tip to absorb the shock..

and everyone drops the shaft about,,,,,oh,,,,,2 measely inches at the most.

now what i HATE about the plugs is that they're long enough that they extend the shaft out of the tube just enough so that when you close the case, the cover presses down on the shaft, putting undo pressure on it. when i realized what it was doing i tried pulling those damned things out(i didn't have the dowel that whitten provides) and it was a total pain in the *ss. took over an hour

I believe their use is to raise the shaft up higher so that it doesn't have to be "poured" out of the case. If you don't use joint protectors you can just screw the butt into the shaft and pull it out that way. The plugs come in different sizes so you can use them with out actually raising them above the top of the tube. I don't believe it makes a bit of difference whether they're there or not, only a question of personal preference.
I'm sure that if the original poster contacts Dan Whitten they are relatively cheap.

Aside from the protection from youre shaft hitting the spring mechanism, it also allows the user with a longer or shorter shaft to adjust for height differences.. His new system is very good from the old system......If youre that interested in the case just email Mr. Whitten and buy the new plug system from them .........

The problem being is you didnt cut down the plugs to fit youre shafts in the tubes the proper way and if you dont do this you are going to have problems with the lid later on down the road........ Youre shafts with plug in should stick up only about 1/4 inch when installed properly ...........:D

The new ones aren't like the old rubber ones, you can't cut them down.

Contact Mr. Whitten and he will sell you the stick and a set of plugs for $20 I believe. Very workable gentleman.

But it comes with one solid piece and add ons with velcro to adjust the height....... You must be able to cut off some on the solid piece???

Well, I guess you could with a jigsaw or a hacksaw or the like, but I don't believe they were intended to be cut as the old rubber ones were.

My kit came with both short plugs and long plugs, then with the round stickers to stick on the end of either to build the tubes up.

Pretty nice setup really...nice case of course as well...just too heavy for me.
