Has anyone played with a dark horse cue, I believe they are from Canada, at least sold from there. I would be interested to know if they are worth the money.

Thanks

r u talking abt those on ebay? i have one. they play nice.. just a little heavy. i prefer mine to be at 17oz but the one i bought off ebay is 19 oz and 60". and they claims to be from Canada, but when i receive the parcel, it originated from China/Taiwan, im not sure which. but is from a Chinese country.

it is very well worth the money actually. mine is a ebony butt, with a leather case( black and white ), a telescopic extension, a short wood extension, and 5 cue tips. all for under $100.

i have no problem with them except for the weight. still looking for solution for the weight problem.

hope it helps.

Mlife is the ebay name of the seller. She is chinese as are the cues. The canada connection is merely an address she gave ebay when registering although if you ask her she'll say she lives in canada and the cues are sent from her relatives factory in china.

A cue, ali case mini butt and telescopic extension usually go for about £50 -£60 including postage at auction which is about the same price you would pay for a quality blank ash shaft and genuine gaboon ebony blank butt from a timber yard to make your own cue. If that doesnt tell you enough about the quality then consider if you buy in bulk and have them shipped rather than sent by airmail each set works out to be around £20*

The Ali cases (with the silver handles) are nowhere near as good as a cuecraft ali case which is the most bought ali case in ther uk/ the hinges are pretty weak the ail very thin and the ends offer no such reinforcement so their like expectancy I'd say is about 4 years about a third of a cuecraft

Telescopic extensions are fine, as good as any on the market, as are the brass joints be they airlock or the normal type.

The woods used and the workmanship however are of the lowest grades possible, you'll rarely see even splices at the tops never mind the bottom. I've not seen one of their "Ebony" cues only the rosewood ones and i suspect they area stained wood or even painted as genuine gaboon ebony is 10 times the price of a cheap rosewood.

Overall though for £50/£60 they are pretty good value for money especially for the occasional player.

* When i enquired 3 years ago and was quoted £15 a set with a minimum order of 500 I was also quoted £60 for a quality plain ash/ebony 3/4 cue only, again if i bought 100 at a go. It's not the chinese who sell us crap it's the importers placing the orders for crap. The chinese can and do make quality goods but they aint that much cheaper really.
