I am extremely saddened to report that Shane Jacoby son of Dave and Peg Jacoby passed away last week. I do not have all the details as of yet but when I do either Mike or I will report them.

I do not suggest contacting the family at this point, it is a devastating blow to them and they are not taking it well.

Please keep them in your prayers, they are some of the nicest people you would want to deal with and have as friends.

My heart and love goes out to Dave and his family, please remember them all in your prayers, they are good people.

Shooting victim appeared troubled by neighbor

TOWN OF DEWHURST - A man killed in a shootout with law enforcement officers Tuesday seemed upset in recent months over a land dispute with a neighbor, according to bartender at a tavern outside Hatfield that he frequented.
Shane R. Jacoby, 36, whom friends called Opie after a character on "The Andy Griffith Show," died Tuesday in the town of Dewhurst in southern Clark County.

Donna Shields, an employee of The Mug tavern north of Hatfield, last saw Jacoby in September.

"He seemed a little off. He didn't seem his normal self, and I blame that on his running dispute with ... Steve Morey," said Shields of rural Neillsville.

Morey, who owned property next to Jacoby's, could not be reached for comment Friday.

Jacoby spent time at his cabin on Riviera Avenue north of Hatfield during the summer and hunting seasons, as well as many weekends, she said.
Jacoby was a good marksman who knew his weapons, Shields said. If Jacoby had wanted to hurt someone during the armed confrontation, she believes he would have.

It's unclear what prompted the incident, officials said.

But Jacoby was upset because his family had owned land for many years, and he didn't want to see an increase in traffic in the area caused by his neighbor Morey's development, Shields said.

"He was very upset about it, and they had several confrontations about it. He was not pleased with Mr. Morey," she said.

Morey, an employee of Five Star Telecom Inc., bought The Riviera Supper Club and has transformed it, as well as the surrounding land, into the Lake Arbutus Sports Bar, she said.

The land houses a camping area for large recreational vehicles, Shields said.

"They call it 'Little Chicago' now because it's all concrete," she said.

The ongoing dispute had lasted more than three years, she said, and Jacoby had placed signs in front of his cabin with messages like "Morey, go home."
Jacoby had no criminal record and served in the U.S. Army for one year during Operation Desert Storm.

According to Clark County Sheriff Louis Rosandich, the incident began when a driver slowed after seeing Jacoby standing in the middle of the Riviera Avenue. He asked if Jacoby needed help. There was a confrontation. The driver saw that Jacoby had a handgun and called 911 at 1:58 p.m. Tuesday.
Two Clark County deputies first made contact with Jacoby, repeatedly trying to talk Jacoby down as he waved the gun. Eventually, Jacoby led authorities on a chase into the woods, firing a .357 caliber handgun several times in their direction as they called for backup.

Jacoby tried to get into an unoccupied home but couldn't.

Then he came toward the deputies, ignoring their commands.

The final shots were fired on Pine Place, just west of the intersection with Osprey Lane. Jacoby died at the scene. The state Division of Criminal Investigation is spearheading the investigation.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Higgins Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids.

Shane was born Oct. 20, 1969, in Wisconsin Rapids, to David and Peggy (Kruger) Jacoby. He graduated from UW-Platteville with a degree in engineering. He worked in the manufacturing industry as an engineer.

He served in the U.S. Army, during Operation Desert Storm for one year, with the 24th Infantry Division as a tank retriever.

His favorite activities included hunting and fishing in the Hatfield area, and also playing pool.

Survivors include his parents, David and Peggy (Kruger) Jacoby of Wisconsin Rapids; one brother, Brandon (Sharon) and their daughter, Maggie, of Wisconsin Rapids; paternal grandparents, Franklin and Virginia Jacoby of Wisconsin Rapids; maternal great-grandfather, George Bemke, town of Rome; and a good friend, Joe Mulvaney.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Richard and Stella Kruger; and maternal great-grandmother, Irene Bemke.

Friends may call at Higgins Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

That's a real shame. My deepest condolences go out to the Jacoby family.
I have a cousin who served in tank retrieval, don't know if it was with the 24th Infantry. I'll have to ask him if he knew this young man.

Unfortunately, I can in no way say that I am close friends with the Jacoby family. However, I have been a staunch supporter of their cues and have utilized their services very often and I know this to be one of the most stand-up businesses I have had the pleasure of dealing with.

I am very saddened to hear of this loss, my own and my family's thoughts and prayers go out to them.

I'm with deadstroke on this one, I hope that God will reach down and touch them during this tremendously hard ordeal.
 
I am very sorry to hear of this unfortunate event. I have done business with the Jacobys for over 10 years and I have found them to be forthright, honest people; very pleasant to do deal with.

This will be a very tough thing for them to deal with. What a shame.
