Dead Center

Awhile back I got a 1/2" straight shank dead center from somewhere and I want a few more but I can't remember where I got it? I've looked in a few catalogs that I would have more than likely ordered it from but can't seem to find one. I know I can get the one with the shoulder that is like a 3/8 staright shank from Hightower and a few others. I see Mueller has one but it looks like aluminum. I want the one I can't find. It is 3" long and 1/2" straight shank, steel. Does anyone have a clue where to find one? I checked Enco, MSC, JL and a few others as well. No luck.

Thanks, Jason

Why not just make one... I just make mine in several sizes depending on the work needed.

Cause for what I paid for it verses the time plus material it would take I'd rather just find them.

Try Porper. They sell one for their lathe 1/2" dia.

Thats the one I saw in Mueller. It looks like aluminum. Does anyone know if it is. I'll have to call tomorrow.

It's true that a good carbide or hardened steel center would be hard to make but if your not looking for a bearing dead center then a steel one using drill rod wouldn't use .50 cents worth of material and take less than 5 min. to make.

Making one is surely an easy route. But if you don't have the confidence call your local Industrial Tool Distributor. If you dont's have on of those then get on the internet go to MSC or Grainger or Fastenal or McMaster Carr or......

Look for Riten or Royal Here's a link to Riten. http://www.riten.com/ This is they're business and are high precision tools.
