Depth of Joint Insert in Cynergy

I have a cue butt who's threads extend too far for the 3/8-11 cynergy I plan to use it with - when fully tightened there's a good 1mm gap between joint faces.

Does anyone here have experience extending the threads of a cynergy? I have a lathe and tap but don't want to burst through into the core of the shaft if I can avoid it, I don't know the consequences of this.

My other practical (or so I think) option is to machine the pin shorter but I have no experience with cutting metal on my mid-size cuesmith lathe.

Thanks

I'd shorten the pin, unless you have a good reason not to. It just seems easier, and would make the butt compatible with more shafts, instead of having to modify the next shaft to also fit.

Have you probed the depth of the insert? I've seen blind holes that weren't threaded all the way to the bottom. That would make your life a lot easier. Otherwise you are going to have to extend the hole and then thread it, there is potential for errors.

1 mm should be no problem. It's likely you wont have to drill at all, as mentioned above, check the depth of the hole first.
