The 10 ball event started about 16 years ago as the ‘Fatboy Challenge’ with Eric (Fatboy) Peterson putting up the money and Jay Helfert running it as a different quick side event at DCC.
After a few years Greg decided to take charge of it for whatever reasons and then Diamond thought they could start a market for 10 foot tables and the 10 ball event switched to the 10 foot table which they called the ‘Bigfoot table’.
So at that time the event became known as the ‘Bigfoot Challenge’ which was about 10 years ago.
It doesn’t look like the market for 10 foot tables has taken off by any measure of how you look at it in the last 10 years. It’s a novelty at this point and it really looks like it won’t ever be more than that.
At this point it seems like they could put the arena space to better use with a 9 foot table right from the beginning to utilize it for the tournament matches which it looks like most people prefer anyway.
Or if they insist on a 10 foot table and a ‘Bigfoot Challenge’ it might be time to put it somewhere else in the building.
Personally, I think if you’re going to have anything else that has nothing to do with a 9 foot table at the DCC you might as well put 2 bar tables in the arena at the beginning and have races to 21.
At least bar tables are the bread and butter of Diamond and seeing champions running racks on them might relate to more sales by people thinking “Hell, I can do that” and having the space in their home for a bar table.
End of rant.
