Did Jimmy White played 9-ball with a snooker cue?

I was watching a 1995 Mosconi Cup match between White/Higgins - Hunter/Massey and I am pretty sure that Jimmy was using a snooker cue. What would be the point of using that cue in a pool game? Can he get better control on the cue ball with a smaller tip? I think it will feel pretty weird to play with such a thin cue.

Yep. He still plays both English and American pool, 8 or 9 ball, with a snooker cue. I guess he has just played so many shots with a snooker cue that it just feels more natural. Steve Davis played pool with a snooker cue at first and then got a special "hybrid" cue made.

I guess most UK snooker pros will have played a little English pool in the pub but English pool cues and snooker cues are pretty transferable (English pool cues have even smaller tips - Gareth Potts once played an English 8 ball tournament with his snooker cue when he was back home from playing Chinese 8 ball as he had got so used to using the bigger tip).

The top snooker players are such good cuesmiths that I'd rate them as favourites with their snooker cue over anyone but a pro level pool player. Steve Davis was asked why he didn't use a pool cue and said something like, "I'm a snooker player, I love 9 ball but I never practice". He was still good enough to do well as a wildcard in the 9 ball world championships he played in. However, if he made a move to pool, or if Jimmy played pool regularly beyond the exhibition matches, I'm certain they would practice and play with a pool cue in order to up their game.

I sometimes feel like I struggle going from my normal 12.5mm tip to a buddies 13mm when we are shooting (I have a 63" cue and sometimes have to borrow if there is a wall or something in the way). I couldn't imagine going from a 9.5-10 mm tip to a 11.75-13mm pool cue. Then again, I don't play at that level either.

Pretty sure that Steve Davis used a modified Parris cue for pool...
...over 11 mm with a fiber ferrule.

A 9 mm tip would not be able to beat a short stop in a money session...
...I don’t care who is using it.
You need the right tools to play great...Tiger could hit a green with a 3-iron from 80 yards
....but a good golfer will rob him with a wedge in the long run.
