Hi all. I am looking to redo my rails and have a few questions. I've been out of the game lately with 2 kids under 4 and stuff but I recently came accross a table someone just wanted out of their basement. It had sat unassembled for yearsand they just wanted it gone so I got the table for free. I got new felt ( velocity pro) and did the slate... put on the rails with the old felt. I wasn't sure how to tell if the rails were any good so that was my solution. The rails are no good.
I've gone thru your forums and found a lot of great info. But I still wonder what is the differance in a set of rails from the low end to high end if they are 100% gum rubber. My table has k-66 ( 1 & 3/16" wide) and I've found prices from $50 to a $200.
I also wonder if I need to raise my rail height what could I do? I think I'm about an 1/8 " too low. My slate to rail height is 1 & 5/16 with 2 & 1/4 balls ( to the best of my eye with a standard tape measurer).
The pockets are 4& 7/8 front and 4 & 1/2 back, I would like to shim them. The end caps are 1/8" and I didn't think it would be good to double them up, I was thinking of just gluing and stapling some 1/8" luan to the subrail to get them another 1/4" tighter.
Sorry for the rambling post......
Thanks for any help!!
Scott
