different back hands for different shots?

as I experiment with my game and try to tweak it, i start to notice things. An ongoing problem with me over the last couple of years has been my grip hand. Due to a childhood accident my index finger was cut off and sewn back on, and it doesnt bend in the middle. Ive experimented with alot of different grips, and after pool school i think I have my basic grip down and its working for me. The thing is my standard grip works for probably 95% of my shots. My standard grip is just basically my first 3 fingers and thumb around the butt and a nice follow thru. But ive found on shots where i really need alot of oomph on the ball, like table length draw or something, if i just use my first and middle fingers and leave the other two out of it, i can really get alot of action on the ball, but i seem to lose out a little on my accuracy. So i have been changing up and using this special grip when i need it, probably come up once or twice a game if that often, just wondering if any of you do something similar.

Seen

a lot of players that grip mostly with 3 and 4th finger
and leave 1st 2 loose.

I have to agree with Snapshot9. A lot of players take that finger off the cue.

Scotty, did you not notice my "grip" hand when we were in Charlotte??SPF-randyg

yeah randy I rememeber me and you talking about that, us having similar hand situations. But here is the deal, for really accurate shots, I lightly grip the cue with my thumb and first 3 fingers (index thru ring). I always leave my pinky finger off cuz it seems to make me torque the cue and i end up twisting off to the right.
Now with this grip I have a hard time bringing the cue all the way back to where the tip is touching my bridge, it seems my ring finger (4th finger) kind of gets in the way and it feels jerky. Now If I want alot of action with the cueball, I drop off the ring finger too, so I would only be gripping it with the middle finger (I end up adding my index finger back into the mix for stability). This kind of makes a natural pivot point, now I can bring the cue all the way back to my bridge and it feels very natural and smooth, and I get a ton more action on the cueball, but it seems I tend to give up a little accuracy with this grip. I met with steve last week and we talked about this very subject but we couldnt really come to a good conclusion. I want to try and do the same thing all the time but i just noticed this seems to be working well for me, so do I go with what works or try to correct it lol

Scotty:

If you had to choose one of the two which would it be????

Accuracy
Action

Things work themselves out with time. You are very smart. You will know what to do....SPF-randyg

Accuracy, always. It's what keeps you at the table.
