Dissolving Glue???

This isn't a cue related question but I know many of you cue builders are near experts on adhesives. I'm have an old Brunswick Balke Collender table with a crack in the rail that looks like someone tried to glue with liquid nails or some type of thick tan glue. They didn't calmp it when glueing and it looks like crap. Is there anything I can drop in the crack to break down the glue so I can redo this properly and make it look good???

I use a soldering gun or iron to break down glue on joint pins and bolts. I just put the tip at the pin and heat it up for a while. Dunno if the crack you mentioned is big enough to use this method... the thing is, heat often breaks it down. Maybe you have to just let it go, sand it flat and stain it or something... not pretty sure though...
