Would a two inch long x half inch in diameter steel bolt that is inserted to a 6 - 8 inch long maple wood be too heavy for a cue extension?

If your only using it for a single shot it wouldn't matter, if your putting it in and playing with it id think so unless you like heavy cues

To cut the weight down on the bolt, it can be chucked in a lathe, and a hole drilled down the center. Did that on a Schon weight bolt that I had already cut back some, but wanted to get another .1 to .2 oz out of it. Could have just got an aluminum one, but didn't want to wait, and already had a few steel ones laying around. Quite simple to do. Actually did it on my wood lathe as I didn't have a tailstock with chuck for my cue lathe yet.

Why Steel and not aluminum.
1/2x13x3" aluminum set screw weighs about 3/4 of an ounce.

When it comes to extensions, lighter is usually better.
To each thier own.

Would fashioning something from G10, or some other phenolic, be feasible for such a temporary, and occasional use?

There's always options.
