Hello everyone,

I have an older Huebler AS-1 that I picked-up from a pawn shop for a little over $26, tax included. The cue is beat to hell and I would like to try to do a refinish on it all by myself. I would like some experienced help along the way, though. I want to be sucessful wit hthis project, but if the cue gets ruined then I'm not out much money and I think it would be a good experience for me.

Here is a post from a shotgun forum on refinishing a stock that I thought I might be able to use, at least in part, to refinish the cue:

For those of you more knowledgavle than me, do you think the described process from that post could work with refinishing a cue?

To get started I would like to have some opinions on the best way to remove the old finish from my cue. I don't mind going out and buying simple products and supplies. I do not have a lathe.

Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions!

The first question do you have a lathe? Any kind even a drill lathe.
If so call me I'll help you. 570 847 7768

Without a lathe you need to improvise to get decent results. Do you have or have access to a floor model drill press???

Hello,

I could use my step-dad's wood lathe, but I'm not thinking I could mount the cue to it easily. I'm assuming the chucks, etc... needed to make the lathe compatable would be expensive, or am I wrong?

Here are pics of the cue:

No wrap. Many dents that I want to iron out. Many chips in the finish.

The cue shoots great. I left my -R- in the case and shot my match at league with it just this past Wednesday :)

Yes the chucks, adapters and such to go onto your lathe would probably cost you about what a professional refinish would cost you. If you figure out a way to go ahead with this yourself make sure you tape over the signature/logo area and don't sand that off.
