DIY Pocket Reducers?

I had good success with the rubber spring loaded pocket reducers for practice sessions. I've been wanting to try those that you posted for some time now but haven't bought a set yet. My pockets are 4.75 and I think these will be good to make the pockets slightly smaller. Your pockets probably need something a bit larger like the rubber spring loaded pocket reducers. Good luck in your search and let us know if you find anything better.

Those spring loaded jobs are VERY good at reducing pocket size!
But the springs sticking up are often a pain to shoot around.

Thanks, but are the spring loaded reducers practical for actually playing? I'm looking for something that can be used in an actual game, not practicing long straight in shots alone.

I tried the Pro Pockets and they're a neat idea, but not any kind of long term solution. The stickers wear off quickly and would require constant replacement.

The spring reducers really shrink the pocket and challenge shotmaking, but both the shape of them and the rubber does not simulate real pocket play. I even coved mine with scrap Simonis and the improvement was minimal. The springs, whether you position them up or down, are annoying. Best used for drills, for playing games, not so much.

If I were in your situation with 5" pockets, I would take up a solid regimen of playing tons of straight pool.

If you really want tighter pockets that won't drive you bonkers, hire a table mechanic to recover your table and tighten the pockets at that time. If you have the $$$ do it by having new, longer rubbers installed and by extending the subrails, not by shimming them up.

Post your question in the Table Mechanics Section of the Forum as well.

Pro Pocket Reducers suck for regular play and the rubber is exposed so
the intended object ball reacts differently than with rails when not pocketed.

.

Obviously not helpful for games, but for practice you can always use a couple balls to tighten up the pockets. This method has the side benefit of giving immediate feedback when you miss on side or the other.

I made my own from heavy duty felt a few years ago. Worked pretty well for practise until I got pockets tightened when getting new cloth installed.

The sticker will wear out if you take them off frequently though. But making a few new ones is pretty quick and cheap.
