DIY veneers

Hello. I was wondering if anybody dyes their own veneers? I recently purchased a vacuum chamber setup and tried dying maple and poplar veneers but the dye did not penetrate completely. I left them in for over an hour. I am using Transtint dye btw. Any help would be appreciated.

I went to a large cue factory one time and they were soaking veneers in 5 gallon buckets of water with dye in them. So for a .040" penetration time should be all you need to dye then.
