Do Jacoby custom cues have much of a resale or trade value?

I have this limited edition Jacoby cue (one of only 6 made) that originally sold for $1250 when it was new (this is what Jacoby told me, and he told me that if he were to build the cue today, then it would cost around $1750).

Anyways, I really love the cue, but I find myself wanting something new (that I always do after owning a cue for a little while).

Here are some pictures of the cue.

I assume that I will need to get the cue refinished before anyone will be interested in it (or in order to get the most interest in the cue).

The cue also does not have sharp points (but the ivory inlays and other inlays are pretty sharp, I think).

I just wish the cue had sharp points (I always been a fan of sharp points and veneers, but the cue is not in that style).

I am just mainly curious if there is much of a market for used Jacoby cues?

Do his cues have much of a fan base (for players and/or collectors)?

Can any of you sellers or dealers reply and tell me how much the trade or resale value of the cue is (or would be if you had it up for sale or trade)?

Thanks for any thoughts about Jacoby cue values in general, or my cue (that is pictured in the link above).

By the way, just in case the previous owner of the cue reads this thread, I just want you to know that I am very grateful for the trade deal you gave me on the cue, and I have really been happy with it.

The short answer is: no

The long one is: Jacoby makes a quality product but they are not super desired or collectible. Expect to take a bath on it. The market is soft and every brand is suffering unless it is super collectible.

It's sad too...but I have to agree. I've had several Jacobys and one in particular I still regret getting rid of it. It was in the top 10 playing cues I've ever owned. Radial joint like the OP's.

Thanks for your honest reply. I was expecting this kind of news, but was not quite sure. I hope that the cue makers out there are not suffering. I hope they are still getting orders in, but like I learned in another thread I created awhile back, the cue makers are not in it for the money (most of them all ready have a career as a main job, and they really do not need to sell cues to survive). So I assume that my cue would be a hard trade for much of anything these days? Are most just looking for cash sales, and not trades? Can anyone give me some other cue makers cues that are on par (value wise) with Jacoby? Just trying to get an idea of what I possibly could get a trade on. I really want something nice with sharp points (a classic looking cue with veneers). Thanks for any thoughts or opinions.

You're kind of doubling your work by posting this in the main forum then needing to post again in the W/FS section. You're asking people here to "guess" at what "might" be offered in trade. None of us will know with any amount of accuracy.

What you could do (should do), is post it in the W/FS section with an asking price (say the price you paid) while noting the "value" given to you already...then say you'd be willing to accept trade offers describing the type of cue you're looking for...and then find out what is really out there that people would be willing to trade.

You're not obligated to accept any trade offer. You might get some where someone's willing to add cash...and you might get some where you'd have to add some cash.

Escrow escrow escrow...did I mention escrow? Unless its a long standing member with quite a bit of iTrader, I'd recommend escrow...and even then it depends. ;)

Thanks a lot for the great advice. You are right. It is all a matter of opinion and how much a certain buyer/trader really wants a certain cue, or how much I would really want what ever the person is offering me on trade. The value is in the eye of the beholder, right? For example, I had a a few really high end South East cues in the past, and I ended up selling both of them to the same person (at different times), and he might be one of very few people in the world that think that South East cues have much of a value to. I was lucky to find a a buyer that had such high respect for the value and playability of South East cues. One last question. Would you have the cue completely refinished before putting it up in the Wanted / For Sale forum, or would the cost probably not be worth it? I am thinking it will cost around $150 to get the cue refinished, but just not sure if it is worth it (if I am wanting to sell or get a trade on it). Thanks.
