I consider myself a collector and a player. I do have some cases that are not carried out of my home- mostly these are mint condition older, cue cases that are really not replaceable as they are truly in mint condition- Palmer Deluxe, Lord Brunswick cases as examples. Even my "production" cues from the 70s and 80s are mint condition originals- I will take them out - but very careful to keep them in 99% condition- Palmer 3rd catalog, Huebler H-A, McDermott D-11, Dufferin Flame Butterfly, Meucci Oldie series, etc.
My more modern-post 2000 custom cues and cases, Scruggs, R Black, Gracio, Instroke, GTF, etc. etc. ; even though far more valuable price wise - I tend to play with more and travel with as well. Growing up in the pool world in the 60s and 70s from early to late teens; I have more of an affinity for keeping that older part of my billiard collection looking exactly as I remembered them back in the day.
