Hey guy's a few times a week, i go to the local Senior Center here is St.Pete Florida. I play Pool with a great bunch of guys. They have a Senior lunch there that is very cheap for them, and after they all hang out in the Billiards room. There are Two 4X8 Tables in good shape. They used there annual budget to have the Tables re-covered and the pockets fixed. All there Cues are old & warped.
I am only 46 myself, but they all love when i come play with them. There are some really great shooters there. I am looking to get them some decent cues
to play with, 1 decent rack and 1 decent cue ball. If you have any one or two piece cues, a wooden rack or a red dot cue ball you want to get rid of or laying around you don't use anymore, we would really appreciate any donation. They are a great bunch of guy's with allot of old Pool stories from the town's they grew up in.:)

"Decent" cues around these parts start at $2,500 and go up from there. Good luck!

On a positive not, Muller has some great looking house cues that start at about $30 with Le Pro tips.

With all due respect, senior center doesn't immediately evoke thoughts of indigent. I would bet a few of those guys could buy and sell you and me both. What is the name of the place and where is it located?

I think it depends on the seniors in question. More seniors are living day to day than are living fat.

I understand what you are saying and it is a real problem, but most senior centers are not soup kitchens but funded places where seniors get together and have various activities, organize trips, they provide transportation services and so on. My mother-in-law goes to a senior center in Tallahassee where she lives part of the time and from what I see many there are just retired persons at the center and very well off, they just like being with people their own age and the place is fun. As to the place in question, It takes only one member with the means, (and I am sure there is more then a few there) to just order the cues and stuff they need and donate it to the place, even the original poster, he plays there.

Good Point ! I am 48 and have aunts and uncles who worked all their lives just to find out that there was no gold in their golden years. The price of some of their prescriptions alone are a precursor to deprivation .They go without just so
they can pay their bills and keep their homes up and running . I believe the original poster said " Senior Center " not old folks home .

In my town our "Senior Center" is a place where they can meet up with each other and get a hot meal provided by meals on wheels ,pick up some medication samples if they are available and much needed care from different providers.

They have arts and crafts available to them and ping pong and pool for recreation as well as shuffleboard ,Any activity that gets them moving around is good for their circulation and respiration and all around well being .These centers also give them a voice as to the plight of the elderly .

Coming to these centers (Not retirement homes or villages) on a daily or weekly basis is sometimes the only bright spot to an otherwise painful and/or dreary existence but at the end of the day they end up up going back to a cold house with no food and the loneliness and abandoned feeling many of them have. They eagerly await their next visit to "The Center"

If I had those items and.or money to send sir I surely would and I wish I was there with you to share in their stories before they become lost forever. One day it will be us in their shoes and I sincerely hope we have changed our ways of thinking regarding the elderly when we get there !

Ratchet - with the pain I live with on a daily basis I allready feel like 90 and The doctors tell me I will do nothing but get worse as time goes by. But I knew that allready...Arthritis is no picnic , I can attest to that..

These folks are not the ones that live in the high dollar condo's downtown.
They come there for the Senior lunch program, and there are other activities, such as gardening etc, etc. Thank you for your interest.:)

Thank you all for your interest. We have a few Cues, a rack and a Cue ball on the way. Thanx to all for your generousity. :)

Macguy: I don't think he'd be asking for donations if they were all wealthy; if they were, they'd have a new GC IV with 860 and all playing with Szambotis. If CHook sees a need and asks for donations, who are we to start getting critical?

I for one am sending two spare cues, and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. Who else is in?

I just found it funny. If you have read past posts by hook he has collectable cues and cases and himself plays with a, (his words) very expensive ivory inlaid custom cue. He is like 46 with a job and not a senior. I picture him over there not doing volunteer work but putting a whip-ass on the old guys with their bent up cues and him with his expensive custom cue. He should have ordered a bunch of house cues for them as well as a rack and cue ball if he saw the need, If for no other reason for all the free table time he gets, it would have cost him less then he spent on his new shaft. I know guys around here who like to sneak into the condos that have tables and play for free pretending to be someone's guest. His story just struck me funny thats all.

Macguy, let's assume for the moment you're right. Captain Hook is taking advantage of the old guys for free table time, he could afford to pickup some stuff himself, a couple of the old dudes could afford to pick it up, whatever negative things we can think of. All that doesn't negate the fact that there is an apparent need by this particular senior center, and that need presents an oppourtunity to do the right thing. It doesn't matter if people giving of their bounty are being taken advantage of, what matters is doing the right thing. If somebody is taking advantage that's their bad and their problem. People in this community will go out and blow a couple of hundred gambling and think nothing of it. Then on their way home walk by some guy down on his luck and not even buy him a sandwich and cup of coffee. I'm not saying I'd do better, just saying we all should do better and not get all up tight about possibly being ripped off. Just do the right thing and let life (or God or Karma or whatever works for you) sort it all out.

Capt Hook ??

Drop me a PM about where this place is. My office is in Brandon and I play golf in Sun City on my way home to Ellenton/Bradenton. Maybe we can hook up in a scotch with the old timers, then you won't be beating them up so bad!!

Yes i am 46.
Yes i do have collectable cues, i have been playing since 1974.
Yes i do have a expensive ivory inlaid custom cue, purchased in 1996
when i had a good paying job.
Yes i did get a new shaft for my Adams, it was a x-mas present.
Yes i do have a job, I was out of work since April 05. I just started here,
I do not make anything near what i used to. It is a new industry for me and i had to start at the bottom.
No i do not take my Custom cue with me to play at the Senior center, cause i go over there on my lunch hour and after work. I keep
a Wal-mart cue in the trunk of the car to use. In the Fla heat my good cue would be warped if i left it in the car at work all day.
No i do not, whip-ass on the old guys. I just started shooting Pool again
after a 15 year's of not being able to play, due to a back injury. They
put a whippin on me, most of the time. They are a great bunch of guys
living on limited means and they love it when i come play with them. We play on double's teams mostly. So everyone gets a chance to play. If i had the spare money i would buy them stuff myself.
Thanx to some very generous A-Z & CCB members we now have achieved
our goal and the guys are very exited about the new gear on the way.:)
Pool has always been my first Love, and i am glad there are other's that feel that way also.

Thank you
C.H.:D

You have PM:D :D

I see this as a good cause, as I live in a Senior Community. We are more fortunate as we have a 29 Table Room, that each table get recovered with New Cloth about every 18 months. House Cues are purchase as Necessary, and we Just got New Racks.
