What's with all the dots on the cue ball in the picture on the front page?

I see three red dots on the ball that Parica is about to shoot.

I went back to the main page and looked at the cb. I don't think it's chalk dust. It looks like 3 red dots to me too. Could it be the camera or something? The dots look pretty large too huh?
 
Purpose of the "Red Dotted" cue balls

My understanding is that the "Red Dotted" or "Red Spotted" cue balls are used on the feature (filmed) tables only. The purpose is so the cameras can pick up and the spectators can see the spin on the cue ball.
 
the only thing i can think of is that the multiple dots are used to track spin.
ooops ,,,too late.
 
Well the forum is complete now. We have God, Plato and now a real professor. I never thought I'd get this much from a pool forum!
 
I think that is a pretty cool idea. I would like to see how much spin the pros put on the ball and what times they use and dont use it.
 
i dont like spots on the cb...really. :)
as a matter of fact, if im just playing with my friends, when i can see that small dot on a regular cb whenever im shooting, i ask them if i can rotate the cb so that i wont see it...:)
i dunno, it just confuses my field of vision sometimes. i also tend to shoot at that spot. lol!

far from it, the forum still lacks an indian, a police... a few more and this forum can sing and dance to the tune of Y-M-C-A! :D
