Former owner of Starcher's Billiards Dottie G. Starcher passes away recently. You can view her obituary at www.ohio.com/obituaries and entering her name. Starcher's Billiards held the Akron Open event throughout the '80's & early "90's and was mentioned in The Color of Money movie. The Akron Open was at the time the longest running independent tournament in the country.

She will me missed.

I am very sorry to hear that.

Everytime I stopped by there she always made me something special to eat. I think she was trying to fatten me up. Years ago she shared a picture collection with me from events that happened at Starchers over the years. To this day, I still have every picture she gave me but my most treasured item will be a book she gave and signed for me. Dottie's was the 1st signature I had in the covers of the book called "Playing Off The Rail". I soon followed that up with every persons signature I met through the years that was also mentioned in the pages.

Starchers was the location of the 1st BIG tournament I ever attended. I remember Earl signing an autograph for me on a poster along with some guy (the Tournament Director) named the "JOKER" Mr. Joe Kerr. Meeting Joe through Starchers was my big break in the tournament world as he himself helped launch my career in the billiard industry as a tournament director. To this day he is the only person that holds a lifetime honorary tour card on the Viking Tour.

Thanks for all the great memories Dottie. Gods speed on your new journey.

Respectfully,

Mike Janis

Joe Kerr: Thanks for posting this. I hope all is well with you. You did a lot to make Starchers a great place to play in a professionally run pool tournament. The Akron Open was always a class act and you made it that way. Tell everyone I said hi.
