Hi Kelly -
I have two drive boxes that are both parallel. One has been converted to USB and the other uses Ethernet smooth stepper.
The USB box works good, however, occasionally it loses connection when switching from incremental and continuous modes. I've never lost a connection during a job but it does consistently lose connection when jogging because I'm constantly uses increment mode.
The Ethernet version is rock solid. I'm going to switch over my USB because constantly restarting drives me crazy!!
