Dufferin Refinish

I have a someone that does just tips and ferrules locally and they were going to remove finish on an old Dufferin I have. How do they do that near the logo at the butt end so it doesn't melt? I've heard this is common.

Melt? Are they using a blowtorch?

It’s just a piece of plastic. If you are sanding hot enough to melt plastic you’ll probably damage everything. Will lose the forearm name though.

Most people say and I agree the finish is the harder and least pleasant part.

I had a cuemaker melt the logo before and he had to later plug it. Also someone else told me they melted one and now just go slower speed to stop that issue.
I wonder who out there might do the best Dufferin conversions for the price. I probably just need refinish, new shaft to match old one, new bumper and maybe the handle taken down 1-2 mm.

Sounds pretty ham-fisted to melt anything on a cue while removing finish. There are only two reasons that would happen:

1. Using waaaaaay to fine grit sandpaper.
2. Allowing the sandpaper to get loaded up with finish, causing it to be basically not sandpaper.

Now, there is a chance that the guy was using some kind of chemical stripper on the cue, in which case...all bets are off.
