Dug out the VHS

I bought this VHS / DVD player 10 years ago when I heard that they were going to stop production of VHS players.
I dug it out of storage today.
I have hundreds of Pool VHS tapes that I’m looking forward to seeing.
It works great, much to the dismay of my wife.
Those VHS tapes take up a lot of space.

That's cool. I had stacks of Accu-Stats tapes that I eventually gave away. I didn't have a player anyway. There is so much on YouTube and most of the quality is better. In fact right now I am watching a straight pool match between Grady and Pat Fleming.

Last night we watched a billiard match with Sang Lee and Ceulemans from 2001.

Probably hardly worth it anymore. I was just on the Accu stats web site and they sell the DVD's for like $9.95. I had some personal VHS tapes put on DVD and the guy charged me like $25 a tape.
The great thing accu stats has done with their business model is, what they sell is not timely. They can sell the same videos indefinitely. People are as happy to watch a match from 1996 as they are new matches.

I bought a DVD burner, and converted my VHS Accustats videos (mostly from the 1990s). I then copied them to a portable hard drive.

The commentary on these older matches is much better than the commentary on most of the videos on You Tube. The commentators really analyze the table layout and discuss shot selection (and no plugs for Predator products). It is especially interesting (and insightful) when they disagree with each other. My favorite commentators are Incardona, Hall, Varner, Archer, and Mathews. The interplay between Incardona and Mathews is often quite entertaining.

I also think the matches from the 1990s are a lot more exciting than most of the matches I see these days. The winner break format means that it is possible to overcome a big deficit. With the alternating break format, the matches are closer and more likely to go hill-hill, but coming from behind is much more difficult.
