Durhams Rock Hard

Thought I saw a post a while back about removing Durhams from screw holes, thought someone said wetting it would soften it back up. Is this true or am I hallucinating again?

Its gypusm based, water will do the trick,but messy' wipe the slate seam with wet cloth rag to remove it'.
